What Is MechMotions?

Mech Motions starts with a base board and 24 safe, sturdy parts. Kids put interchangeable pieces onto the board to build moving mechanisms including pistons, cams, sliders, and gears. Once assembled, they move each mechanism by hand to see how parts work together and how motion is created, transferred and changed!

Our Story

LearningToysUSA was started in 2020 by a small team of makers who believe the best learning happens through hands-on interaction. We noticed that modern learning had become heavily passive or screen focused, leaving many people out of touch with the real physical principles behind the world. We wanted to create something that brings mechanical learning into a tangible, interactive form. 

When designing MechMotions, the goal was to create a product that demonstrated real mechanical principles, while also being simple, safe, and accessible. Through the different assemblies, users can explore mechanisms such as spur gears and piston systems, while gaining an intuitive understanding of force and motion interactions. 

Being a family owned and operated company, we place a strong emphasis on producing a product of quality and integrity, achieved through full manufacturing in the United States. Every step, from packaging to the professionally molded plastic, is completed in Southern California, allowing us to maintain a high standard for safety, consistency and transparency. We like to make a product that people can trust, and hopefully hand down to the next generation. In addition to this, accessibility is a core part of our design philosophy. Each MechMotions piece is engraved with Braille, ensuring that even visually impaired users have the ability to have fun and learn. Components are also intentionally designed to be friendly to our younger users.

    Mech Motions is created by a family owned and operated company, and is manufactured entirely in the United States. We focus on creating products that we’d be proud to put in our homes and classrooms. 

  • Braille Friendly

    All Mech Motion parts are engraved in braille, making it inclusive to visually impaired learners, both young and old. The design allows users to learn fully though touch, free of screens or visual cues. 

  • Safe & Sturdy

    This toy is made of large, durable plastic pieces. It will last a lifetime, and safe against choking.

Geneva Drive

The Geneva Drive turns continuous spinning into intermittent stop-and-go steps. The rotating wheel advances the slider one step at a time, demonstrating how machines precisely control timing and movement using simple mechanical designs. 

Nautilus Gears

Inspired by the nautilus shell, this is a unique contraption that is made up of two gears shaped as spirals. The distinctive shape of the gears results in variable speed and torque as they mesh, as well as a mesmerizing motion. 

Piston

The Piston, perhaps one of the most important developments of the modern age, converts linear (back and forth) motions into rotational motion, or vise versa. In something like a car, It can be used to convert chemical energy (fuel) into mechanical energy (speed).
